Position Summary

Assist the Executive Director and Administrator with all LYADP related tasks. Work with the Administrator to coordinate the day to day activities for the Program.  Responsible for the audition process for potential candidates for the Program. 

Primary Responsibilities


Assistant to the Executive Director


  • Maintain Executive Director’s schedule, arrange meetings with colleagues and young artists
  • Coordinate Executive Director’s schedule with Juilliard and other non-LYADP related commitments
  • Manage correspondence
  • Assist in arranging travel and schedule for Executive Director’s recruitment trips
  • Coordinate and facilitate ticket requests for Juilliard students and employees

General Management of the Young Artists


  • Assist the Administrator with the preparation of the day-to-day activities for the young artists in collaboration with other LYADP staff and faculty 
  • Compose and update biographical materials for the young artists  
  • Assist with producing young artist recitals, concerts, master classes, and other events, including editing and copying programs, texts and translations.  Continue to update all recital material.  
  • Liaise with the Special Events department for the annual Patron’s Concert and Levine sessions, and assist with making programs, sending invitations, and maintaining guest list
  • Record or manage recordings of recitals and other young artist recording requests
  • Produce and oversee LYADP Forum Series (4-5 annual events)
  • Manage all LYADP reimbursements, invoices and bills through the Met’s Finance and Payroll Departments 
  • Pay all young artists, master teachers, guest teachers and part-time faculty and maintain and improve system to do so.  
  • Collaborate on the annually updated LYADP Handbook and Calendar distributed to the young artists at orientation
  • Coordinate auditions for the Program with outside opera companies and other guests. Correspond and coordinate with outside Artistic Administrators who wish to audition and hire young artists. Liaise with Juilliard to include their artists in the audition process.  Manage and proctor the auditions.
  • Assist Administrative Associate in generating and distributing the LYADP daily schedule.
  • Coordinate Language Study submission form process for all artists. Arrange and facilitate institution relationship, registration, accommodations, and travel itineraries.  Prepare all artist receipts for reimbursement
  • Be available for occasional evening and weekend hours for events as they arise

Admissions


  • Maintain application files for LYADP candidates
  • Answer general phone or e-mail inquiries about the Program
  • Liaise with Graphics to update application/audition information on the Met’s website
  • Schedule and organize auditions for LYADP candidates
  • Make travel and accommodation arrangements for candidates
  • Arrange for visas and/or any other documents regarding non-US citizen candidates for audition process
  • Liaise with Metropolitan Opera National Council and other Lindemann Program scouts

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

Education and/or Experience


  • Strong organizational, computer and proofreading skills
  • Musical background and knowledge of opera
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently
  • Hours are generally from 10 am – 6 pm, Monday through Friday, however occasional evening and weekend hours are required for various events, including recitals, auditions and Patron activities
