Thomas Adès's contemporary masterpiece The Tempest, with a libretto by Meredith Oakes based on Shakespeare's play, has its Met premiere on October 23. The production by Robert Lepage is conducted by the composer and stars Simon Keenlyside as Prospero, a role he created to widespread acclaim in the opera's 2004 world premiere.

Prospero (Simon Keenlyside) then orders Ariel (Audrey Luna) to bring the shipwrecked to his island–in the Met production, a recreation of Milan's La Scala opera house.

The shipwrecked courtiers mock Caliban (Alan Oke, center), a native creature and son of the island's previous ruler.
