Position Summary

The Sales Associate at The Met Opera Shop provides excellent customer service by engaging customers directly and naturally, helping to create a welcoming environment in which opera fans of all varieties (and those not yet opera fans!) feel comfortable and encouraged to come to The Met Opera Shop with any and all of their opera questions and needs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent, engaging and thoughtful customer service
  • Help stock and replenish the selling floor
  • Stay current with Met Opera productions
  • Thorough knowledge of Met Shop products and promotions
  • Actively work to maintain the commercial presentation of the store
  • Keep the selling area, registers and stock area clean and well maintained
  • Stay informed of store standards, practices and routines and work accordingly
  • Stay informed of campaigns, promotions and activities
  • Ring on the register, report and handle all required transactions, issue receipts and pack merchandise in the proper manner
  • Answer phones courteously and promptly
  • Assist in training new sales associates
  • Adhere to all policies and programs contained in the Employee Handbook
  • Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
  • Perform other retail associate duties as dictated by business needs

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • A love of the opera and MUST have an Extremely High Level of opera knowledge (opera composers, performers, works and recordings)
  • At least 5 years prior experience in retail (Opera/Classical audio/visual sales experience highly preferred)
  • Friendly, outgoing, professional personality
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Selling floor work environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
